This was a warm conversation in many ways. Dr Hilary Jones has been a fixture of public health communication for decades, and Siobhan brought her own experience to the table. GenderGP had just marked ten years, which was the reason for the conversation, and I was glad to be there for it.
But warmth and accuracy do not always travel together, and there were moments where the framing needed more than I had time to give it in the room. The questions about social contagion, animal identities, and puberty blockers all sound like reasonable scepticism when they are posed that way. Underneath them is a set of assumptions worth looking at properly, because some of what was said was right, some was incomplete, and some landed in a place that the evidence does not support.
So here is the conversation as it happened, and here are the things I would say if we had more time than a studio allows.
Each one is about half a minute, and has a page of its own.
Some of these claims deserve more than a paragraph, so each one has a film and a full piece behind it.
The studio argument is one thing. These are people it actually happens to.
