Dr Helen Webberley on Triggernometry: the trans debate, with Konstantin Kisin, Triggernometry
A child says they're trans one day and gets medical treatment the next. Parents panic, doctors cave, and puberty blockers follow almost immediately, with no real history behind the decision and no time for anyone to think.
What I was trying to say there is that we don't arrive at a child's care from a single conversation. We arrive at it from a whole childhood. The 11-year-old sitting in front of a doctor has years of experience behind them already: years of feeling, years of telling people, years of being themselves in private even when the world wasn't ready to hear it. That history is the evidence. It is not a snapshot, it is a life. The idea that any of this moves quickly is so far from the reality of what these families actually live through that it almost takes your breath away.
