Dr Helen Webberley on Triggernometry: the trans debate, with Konstantin Kisin, Triggernometry
The law already protects trans people, so the problem is basically solved. If discrimination happens, there are legal routes to challenge it, and that is enough.
What I was saying there is that a right on paper and a right in practice are two entirely different things. The Equality Act exists. It names gender reassignment as a protected characteristic. And still, every day, trans people face bias, harassment, and hatred that goes unchallenged, because the law only works when someone enforces it, and enforcement requires political will, corporate courage, and personal conscience. All three of those are currently failing. That is not a legal problem, it is a moral one, and it belongs to all of us.
