Dr Helen Webberley on Triggernometry: the trans debate, with Konstantin Kisin, Triggernometry
Being trans is itself the source of the distress trans people experience. If the identity is the problem, the thinking goes, then the solution is to question or remove it.
What I was saying there is something I have believed for a long time, and the evidence bears it out: the distress is not coming from being trans. It is coming from being told you do not exist, that you should not exist, that your identity is a mistake or a danger or a phase. Gender diversity is not a disorder. It is part of the full, extraordinary range of what human beings are. The cure for that distress is not to narrow the world further. It is to stop the prejudice that makes it so hard to live in.
