Misconception and reality

Denying trans identity erases millions of real people

What people think

Transgender identity is a belief or a preference, not something real. If someone has a penis, they are a man, full stop. The body settles the question, and saying otherwise is just ideology.

What is actually true

What strikes me every time I hear this argument is how casually it erases millions of actual people. There are estimated to be around eight million transgender people in the United States alone, and they are not a theory or a talking point: they are living, breathing human beings who know who they are. The claim that a person with a penis cannot identify as a woman does not disprove transgender identity; it simply refuses to look at it. You do not get to define a whole population out of existence because their existence makes you uncomfortable.

Whatever brought you here, I'm glad you came. Tell me what is on your mind and we can talk it through.
