Dr Helen Webberley on Robby Starbuck: transition and children, Robby Starbuck
When someone detransitions, or when a single doctor raises a concern, that is reason enough to deny gender-affirming care to everyone. The voices that get amplified are always the cautionary ones, and the people who are actually living full, happy lives after gender-affirming care are rarely asked.
I keep asking trans adults who had gender-affirming care when they were young how their lives actually are, and they tell me. They tell me about better sex, better bodies, better everything. Carcy Bowers is one of them, and the answer is not complicated. One detransitioner's story is real and deserves respect, but it is not a reason to take away care from the many people for whom that care has been life-giving. One leaked document, one unnamed doctor, one worst-case claim: none of that outweighs the lived reality of the people who are here, thriving, and perfectly willing to talk about it if anyone would only ask them.
