Misconception and reality

Guidance on trans children written by those with no experience of them

What people think

The people writing guidance on trans children are the right people for the job. They are experts, they have reviewed the evidence, and their conclusions should be trusted.

What is actually true

What I was asking there is the question nobody in power seems to want to answer: why, when it comes to guidance that shapes the lives of trans children, do we turn to people with no clinical experience of working with transgender children or adults? The expertise exists. There are clinicians in the UK who have spent years listening to these young people, understanding their needs, watching what helps and what harms. They were not the ones asked. That is not a small procedural detail. It is the reason the guidance came out the way it did, and it is the reason so many children are now paying the price for it.

Whatever brought you here, I'm glad you came. Tell me what is on your mind and we can talk it through.
