Dr Helen Webberley on Times Radio: puberty blockers, with Andrew Neil, Times Radio
Most people understand trans children through headlines and debates, not through actually knowing any. It is easy to treat this as an abstract question when you have never sat with a child who is living it, or with the family trying to do right by them.
I have had the privilege of meeting thousands of transgender children and their families, and that experience changes everything. Not because it gave me a theory, but because it gave me people: real children, real parents, real love, and real stakes. When you have spent that kind of time listening, the question of whether trans children exist, or whether they know themselves, simply dissolves. What remains is the understanding that visibility matters, that these children deserve to be seen without being hurt for it, and that the bravery it takes to say "this is me" should be met with care, not suspicion.
