Trans healthcare for children is a political choice, a specialism a doctor opts into or out of. If it gets too controversial, a doctor can simply step back from it.
What is actually true
I couldn't step back from it, because children were already there. Every trans adult I had ever met was once a trans child, and when a twelve-year-old boy sits in front of you and says nobody will help him, medicine doesn't offer you an exit. I knew what it might cost me professionally. I said yes anyway, because he was just a little boy, and that is what doctors do.
