A supportive parent gives a trans child the best outcome

Dr Helen Webberley on GB News: puberty blockers, with Lucy Johnston, GBNews

What people think

When a child is struggling with their gender identity, the medical system is where the real work happens. Parents are in the background, waiting for professionals to take over.

What is actually true

What I have seen, again and again, is that the single biggest factor in how well a trans child does is whether there is a parent in their corner. Not a perfect parent, not one who has all the answers on day one, just one who stays. A child who knows their parent is with them can weather almost anything the world throws at them. That is not a small thing. It is everything.
