Misconception and reality

The international evidence base for gender care in children

Dr Helen Webberley on GB News: puberty blockers, with Lucy Johnston, GBNews

What people think

There is no real evidence base for giving gender-affirming medical care to children. It is experimental, unregulated, and doctors are making it up as they go along.

What is actually true

What I was pointing to there is something people genuinely do not know: this is not a fringe practice dreamed up by activists. The Endocrine Society, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Australian guidelines, WPATH, these are serious, established medical bodies, and they have all published detailed, peer-reviewed protocols telling clinicians exactly what to do and when. The evidence has been built over decades, reviewed internationally, and endorsed by the organisations that set the standard for medicine more broadly. When someone tells you the science does not exist, they are not describing the literature. They are choosing not to read it.

Whatever brought you here, I'm glad you came. Tell me what is on your mind and we can talk it through.
