Dr Helen Webberley on Heretics: the gender debate, with Andrew Gold, Heretics
The debate about trans care is best settled by doctors, researchers, journalists, and policymakers arguing it out between themselves. The loudest, most informed voices in the room are the ones that should shape the answer.
The one voice that keeps getting left out is the only one that actually knows: the person living it. I can read every study, I can sit in every debate, but I cannot tell you what it feels like to be trans in your own body and your own soul. Only you can tell me that. That is not a gap in the evidence; it is the whole point. Every time we talk about trans lives without trans people at the centre of that conversation, we are answering the wrong question.
