Dr Helen Webberley on Heretics: the gender debate, with Andrew Gold, Heretics
Trans people want labels, categories, and separation. That the push for recognition is about insisting on difference rather than simply trying to survive in a world that punishes it.
What I actually want is the world where none of this matters. Where a woman with a penis is just a woman, where nobody is mocked or shunned or hurt for how they look or how they live. I want that world genuinely, not as a talking point. But wanting it doesn't make it real yet, and pretending we're already there is what gets people hurt. The labels, the medical steps, the visibility, the fight: none of that is the destination. It's what people need to survive the distance between the world we have and the one we're trying to build.
