Dr Helen Webberley on Heretics: the gender debate, with Andrew Gold, Heretics
Children who say they are trans are confused, or going through a phase, or need years of careful observation before anyone should take them seriously. A child insisting on who they are is a symptom to be managed, not a truth to be heard.
There was a twelve year old boy who simply would not stop telling the truth about himself, to anyone who would listen and plenty who wouldn't. He is the reason my professional life went in the direction it did, and I would not change a single moment of it. He is twenty now, and he is a beautiful young man. That kind of clarity, that kind of courage in a child, does not look like confusion. It looks like someone who knows exactly who they are and is waiting for the adults around them to catch up.
