Transgender people are asking to be left alone to access their care

Dr Helen Webberley on Robby Starbuck: transition and children, Robby Starbuck

What people think

The debate around trans healthcare is a balanced one, with reasonable people on both sides weighing up the evidence. Trans people are one voice among many, and the loudest voices in the room deserve equal consideration.

What is actually true

What I was trying to say there is simple: the people whose lives are at stake are not being heard. Millions of transgender people are not asking for a debate. They are asking for the care they already know works, that research supports, and that makes their lives better. The interference is not coming from medicine or from trans people themselves. It is coming from people who are not living this experience and who have decided, nonetheless, that they know better. That has to stop.

Whatever brought you here, I'm glad you came. Tell me what is on your mind and we can talk it through.
